South Bend-Elkhart Region Awaits Decision on READI 2.0 Grant

Last month, the South Bend-Elkhart Region submitted a proposal for a READI 2.0 grant from the State of Indiana, seeking $75 million for investments across the region. This strategic initiative aims to drive economic growth, enhance community assets, and elevate the quality of life for residents.

Background

The South Bend-Elkhart Region, a collaborative effort among economic development partners from St. Joseph, Elkhart, and Marshall counties, crafted a comprehensive plan. Through stakeholder engagement and community meetings, they envisioned projects that could catalyze regional growth.

READI 2.0 Details

The READI 2.0 program allocates $500 million statewide for community development investments. An additional $250 million from the Lilly Endowment Inc. enhances this fund. The South Bend-Elkhart proposal is one of 15 received by the Indiana Economic Development Corporation (IEDC).

Evaluation Criteria

The IEDC evaluates proposals based on economic development potential, regional collaboration, and alignment with state priorities. Factors include population growth, income, employment opportunities, educational attainment, housing, childcare, and innovation.

Anticipated Decision

The decision is expected on April 11. If successful, the region will select local projects in summer 2024. These investments have the potential to transform the Hoosier state, attracting private and public sector funding.

Let us await this pivotal moment as the South Bend-Elkhart Region stands ready for progress.
