Meteorologists are closely monitoring severe weather conditions across the Midwest, where tornado watches are in place. These watches cover multiple counties in four states, signaling the potential for twisters to form.

States Affected

The affected states include:

  • Southern Illinois
  • Southwest Indiana
  • Southeast Missouri
  • Northwest Kentucky (partial coverage)

Threat Assessment

The National Weather Service (NWS) warns that a thunderstorm capable of producing tornadoes is moving eastward over Western Grove, Arkansas. Meanwhile, the threat is expected to shift northeast, with Ohio and northern Kentucky at the highest risk.

The NWS classifies tornado strength using the Enhanced Fujita scale, with wind gusts ranging from 111 to over 200 miles per hour.

Additional Hazards

Alongside tornadoes, the storm system brings the risk of:

  • Frequent lightning
  • High winds
  • Hailstones (some exceeding two inches in diameter) in parts of the Ohio Valley

Residents in the affected areas should take necessary precautions. Damage to trees, properties, and mobile homes is possible. Stay informed through official weather alerts and prioritize safety.

Stay Prepared

Keep an eye on local weather updates and be ready to take shelter if necessary. The storm's trajectory may shift, so vigilance is crucial.
